When I was making the dress, the first problem that I came across was the large V split in the front of the skirt. I had designed the dress so that the V split was not as visible and was more of a detail that was revealed when the consumer was walking. I quickly learnt that I had made the pattern wrong. Instead of making one piece for the front of the skirt, I should have made two by adding a seam at the centre front and decreasing the angle of the V. When i fitted this dress on my model i also realized that i should have made the hip area larger as when she put the dress on the V split ended up splitting more as my model had fairly large hips. Another problem that I encountered was the front of the bodice, I had previously created the pattern for this by modelling on the stand, however when I had made the pattern and sewn it up it did not fit the mannequin as nicely as I had hoped. Therefore I decided to change the pattern, I then made a new pattern for the front of the bodice by using a fitted dress block and changing it so that it would finish at the waist and was also a strapless top. After I had done this I found that it fitted the mannequin much better, however it was still not good enough. I then decided that I would add elastic to the waist and to the top of the bodice. When this had been done the bodice fitted the mannequin much better. Probably the biggest problem that arose when making this garment was the neckline, when creating the pattern I had not considered creating a neckline that was large enough for the consumer to fit their head through so the neckline was very fitting around the neck. I then decided to change the neckline into a V shape to allow for the head to fit through.
To conclude, the things that I would change to my patterns would be the size of the cape, the V split on the dress and also the neckline on the dress. The other amendments that I made to the garment I would like to keep as I think that it has improved the overall look.
